Dr Best is an associate professor of family medicine and orthopedics and rehabilitation at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has a clinical practice that involves both sport medicine and primary care. As an affiliate professor of biomedical engineering, he supervises several graduate students and PhD candidates. His research focuses on muscle strain injuries, their pathophysiology and treatment. Current research topics include the role of neutrophils in injury and repair as well as new treatment approaches and the role of the neuromuscular system in injury treatment and prevention. Other interests include the study of prolotherapy and its role in treatment of chronic ankle pain and instability. Dr Best receives funding from The National Science Foundation, The National Institute of Health, and The Whitaker Foundation. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the American College of Sports Medicine.
