Hormonal responses to a 160-km race across frozen Alaska

This is an excellent paper that evaluates the hormonal response to an ultra-endurance event in frozen temperatures. Research on endurance exercise in very low ambient temperatures is unique and has been essentially ignored by the scientific community, making this paper valuable to those both participating in these events and to those designing training programmes. One of the most distinctive aspects of this paper is the low correlation between cortisol and testosterone both before and after races.
