Injuries on offshore cruising sailboats: analysis for means of prevention

The first 100% of the full text of this article appears below.

As an increasing number of retired people explore the waterways of the world, it is important to address their safety and overall health during their adventures. This study is a nice sampling of the types of injuries and illnesses that may occur in cruising sailors, and excellent suggestions regarding injury prevention are discussed. Further recommendations to the sailing community may also include fall prevention methods and specific exercise programmes that could help reduce injury incidence. Finally, sailboat designers may also wish to pay attention to ergonomic adaptations and safety aids that may better assist this population in their travels.
