Professor Roald Bahr awarded the Prince Philip Medal for outstanding contribution to sports and exercise medicine

At a lunchtime ceremony in Buckingham Palace on 15 October 2008, Professor Roald Bahr was presented with the Prince Philip Medal by His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, KG, KT. The medal was awarded to Professor Bahr by the Institute of Sport and Exercise Medicine (ISEM), an organisation founded in 1958 and of which HRH The Duke of Edinburgh is an Honorary Fellow.

THE INSTITUTE

The Institute was founded by Peter Sebastian and the first Chairman was Sir Arthur Porritt, President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and later Governor-General of New Zealand. The ISEM, and its Honorary Fellow, played a significant role in the establishment of Sport and Exercise Medicine as a speciality in the UK.
