About the app

The app provides a pitch-side assessment resource to help non-medically trained individuals recognise concussion and seek appropriate advice, where necessary. A disclaimer is provided, which clearly states that the app is not intended to replace trained medical assessment. The primary feature of the app is a simple, stepwise pro-forma to aid in the rapid assessment of an athlete with a possible concussion. The user is led through a series of yes/no questions relating to the signs and symptoms of concussion and traumatic brain injury, in addition to providing details on the mechanism, force and location of injury if known (figure 1).
