These findings have significant impact when reporting the effects of therapeutic interventions (such as cardiac rehabilitation) not only in the clinical setting, but also in medical publications. We believe that future studies measuring exercise capacity—and particularly changes in exercise capacity after various interventions in patients with coronary artery disease—use a direct rather than an estimated measurement of maximal oxygen uptake.
