Dr Berger recently responded1 to my article in the British Journal of Sports Medicine entitled: Berger in retrospect: effect of varied weight training programs on strength,2 which is a critical analysis of one of Dr Berger’s early studies.3 In his response,2 Dr Berger presented no scientific evidence to support his opinion on single versus multiple sets. He cited references that were irrelevant to the topic, and challenged the reported statistical analyses. I have responded to each of Dr Berger’s claims in a brief review4 which differentiates the scientific evidence from Dr Berger’s opinion.
