It has been suggested that inverventions based on the transtheoretical model of behaviour change (TTM) may be useful in promoting physical activity. Published work on the effectiveness of such inteventions is therefore critically reviewed. Although there is evidence that TTM based activity promotion interventions are effective in promoting activity adoption, initial results on longer term adherence are disappointing.
