Serum creatinine and urea concentration were evaluated according to Bartles et al. [41] and Fawcett and Scott [42], respectively. Serum glucose level was estimated following the method of Hyvarinen and Nikkila [43]. Plasma Cortisol levels were assayed using an ELISA kit (Lansing, Ml, USA, 2010) [44].

The experiments were performed to the rules of animal care proposed by Serbian Laboratory Animal Science Association (SLASA), which is a member of Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Association (FELASA). Fasting blood and urine glucose level was measured by the standard glucose oxidase method [9]. Plasma and pancreatic insulin were measured by radioimmunoassay using commercial kits in accordance with the instructions (INEP-Diagnostics, Zemun) and rat insulin standard (Novo Industry, Bagsvaerd, Denmark).
