Effect of short- and long-term physical activities on circulating granin protein levels
2013, Regulatory PeptidesCitation Excerpt :Although we were unable to verify the increment in CgA levels by short-term strenuous exercise, we demonstrate that CgA levels are influenced by the prolonged strenuous conditions of the ranger course. To the best of our knowledge, CgA levels have previously not been measured in situations similar to a military ranger course that is known to increase catecholamine, glucocorticoid, mineralocorticoid, growth hormone, and gastrointestinal hormone levels [35–37], while inducing marked depletion of the male sex hormones and thyroid hormones [38–40]. The localisation of CgA in the peripheral nerve endings and the adrenal medulla represent a physiological explanation for the increment in CgA levels during the ranger course.
Salivary VIP concentrations are elevated in humans after acute stress
2013, PeptidesCitation Excerpt :NPY levels have been found in response to several stress conditions such as extreme situations of physical exertion such as soldier survival training [20]. There are also studies examining the role of plasma VIP in the stress response [5,28–30]. These studies examined the plasma VIP response to prolonged fasting and involuntary sleep withdrawal and exercise [5,28–30].
